House extension, part 1 of 2: Excavation, foundation, framing

The old deck. See you in another incarnation later on.

It was a bit neglected.

From the back.

Now the digging can begin.

It's a large, large vehicle.

Foundation base.

Crushed stone.

Forms.

Water protective siding.

Walls.

Ledge for 3rd column cantilever and site for retaining wall.

Old stone foundation and retaining wall base.

Window wells.

The retaining wall.

Framing begins.

Water is the enemy.

It takes a lot of wood. A LOT of wood. And a big crane delivers it.

It looks taller than the houses across the street from this angle. Also, it really is taller than the houses across the street.

Lots of stuff will be thrown away.

First floor floor base almost done.

The walls are born.

Note the minor cathedral ceiling extension from walls to main ceiling. A nice touch, and adds some headroom.

Raising the roof.

The master bedroom skylight.

The view out the skylight from the bed.

The master bedroom and reading nook.
